“We had to have candles”-Jorge, 6, Oaklands School

When the Earthquake happened I was in the library and two computers fell down. I went out of the library to the field and Ms Olaughlan came and we had to sit on the field. Then we went into the hall and I waited for my Mum to come and get me. When I got home all the books had fallen off the bookshelf and my lego had crashed all over my bedroom. We had no power and after tea it was dark, we had to have candles.

    Hi Jorge

Wow… two computers falling down would have been terrible. Where were you, under a table?

I am glad you were with the teachers and school friends on the field as that is a safe place to be.

Mum would have been so happy to see you and I am sure she would have hugged you!

It is different to have no lights at home, a bit like camping really.

I hope you are well and your family too, I am thinking of you loads!

That is such a great story, Jorge. Great Aunty Bev and Shaun were rescued by Daddy and Grandad weren’t they and they came back to your house at midnight!! Very late!! Do you remember, all three boys were up and sitting on the couch with Grandma and Mummy cooked you some toast and you had a milo. Grandma didn’t, she had a cup of tea! We were so happy to see Aunt Bev and Shaun. She rang tonight and sends you her love. Love Grandma and Grandad xxx
