“I knew it was a big one”-Liam, 9, Avonhead School

I was sitting at my desk when the earthquake happened. I knew it was a big one but I wasn’t scared. Some kids were screaming and crying. Our school was okay and our house was okay. We went to my Grandma’s to shovel some silt because it was messy where she lives and there were big bumps in the road. At home we are doing a lot of washing for families that haven’t got any water so they can’t wash their clothes and sheets and towels. Our optometrist died because of the earthquake.

    Kia ora Liam

First of all let me say a big thank you for sharing your news on here. Secondly I am sorry to hear of your Optometrist, that is very sad.

I am pleased you have your school and house clear of the mess and very pleased you are helping out your Grandma and the silt problem she has there.

How kind your family is to help people with their washing, a really big task. Well done.

I am in Auckland and can only see the TV as to what is happening but I am thinking of you all the time and along with lots of other folk are looking at new ways to raise funds and other ways to help out.

Please take care and send my best wishes to your family and friends.
