‘Earthquake story’-Benjamin, 6, Halswell School

My and my friends Josh, Travis and Todd trying to get the cricket wickets off the kids who were playing Ninjas outside my classroom, Room 17. When the earthquake happened I felt dizzy and people were trying to get into the classroom, but we had stop at the steps because they were shaking too much for us to go up.

After the earthquake we went into our class and sat under our desks. After a while we went out to the big field. After a long time we went back to our classrooms and had lollies.
Then Dad picked us up. I felt worried about Tommy my rabbit.

    Hi Benjamin

First of all I want to thank you for taking the time to write this piece about the day of the big earthquake. Well done.

I am not surprised you felt dizzy with all that movement of the earth going on.

The desks were good and sturdy to keep you all safe before you went to the big field.

Did the teachers give you lollies? That was good of them if they had some there.

I am sure your Dad was so pleased to see you and I do hope Tommy is well.

Take care, we are trying to help from a long way away and we will all be visiting Canterbury again soon.

    From Ella in Auckland.
