‘Earthquake 2011′-Charlie, 7, Harewood Primary
When the earthquake hit, I was playing with some friends near the swimming pool.
The ground started to wobble and shake like crazy. It felt strange.
The swimming pool’s water had a big wave through it, it was freaky.
We dropped to the ground like armidillos!
After it finished we ran around to the court where we felt safe.
I was so happy to see my Dad when he came to pick me up.
The End.
Hi Charlie
I am sorry you had the big earthquake that made the pool get a big wave and scared you all.
I am hoping that all starts to settle down for you there, it has been very hard for you.
It was good you got to the court to stay safe. I reckon you were so happy to see Dad when he came to pick you up. Did you get lots of hugs?
Remember we are all thinking of you, many of us have never had the experience you have had and we know how brave you are.
Take care from Ella in Auckland.
What an incredible story. I loved the armidillo description. Great writing.
It did feel a bit freaky Charlie. I like your description! Thanks for the way you helped so many other people after the earthquake with your family. You’re a star!
Charlie, What a brave lad you were through the earthquake at school. Is a armidllos like a turtle. It was too hard for me to be a turtle where I was but it was real scarey. I think I wish I had been at Harewood School. It sounds like a safe place even if the water in the swimming pool has waves.

Charlie, It certainly did feel strange when the ground shook. The wave in the swimming pool must heve been freaky but you were a smart lad and dropped to the ground like an armdillo. Is that like like a turtle?
You were at a great school when this happened and did very well.
