‘My Story’- Elena, Hillview School

We were at the pool upstairs, waiting for our turn to hop into the pool the teacher finally told us to go down stairs and get changed. We were jumping down the stairs when I heard a rumbling and felt shaking. I turned around to tell the boys in my class to stop shaking the stairs. Then it started shaking really badly I fell down 2 or 3 stairs and heard screaming I wasn’t sure if it was me or someone else screaming? I did the turtle. We got to have a courtesy ride from a lovely bus lady. We were at the other side of town and bussed back to school. It was very scary looking out the window and wondering if your family and house were ok!

Thank you for spending the time to share your experience of the big earthquake.

I can understand that you thought it might have been the boys messing about when you came down the stairs.

The turtle is a good thing isn’t it? It seems to have worked well.

I hope your family and house are all well. Most importantly the family!

Please take care and just to let you know there are people all around the world hoping the very best for you.
