‘My story’-Autumn, 11, Parkview Primary School

I am just looking for another good book when suddenly the library starts rocking side to side. All you hear is screaming and teachers trying to calm others down. It felt like a 8.0 but it wasn’t. I was under the doorway with at least 6 others. We went back to class and there was another earthquake. The first one had already messed up the classroom by knocking over the bookcases and made the desks and the sofa go wonky, and the lights went funny. I felt really worried about the family and especially mum because I knew that she was in the city centre, all I thought about was all the buildings in September. The field went lumpy and then another aftershock and the lumps burst. They burst in 6 different places including the playground. Liquifaction everywhere. Now the school was flooded. Now more screaming. The road was munted, sand, holes, water- that was the state of the road. From school going so well and the rest of Christchurch recovering from September and then 45seconds of rocking movement, everything collapsed. I felt relieved when I saw Nonna come to pick my sister and myself up. We met up after at my aunt and uncles house. And now we are staying at my grandparents (out of town)with my aunt, uncle, two cousins, grandparents, mum and my two sisters. . UNREAL!

  3. Hello Autumn,
I am so thankful that you and your sisters, Mum, and all the rest of your family remain unhurt. I must have been horribly scary, but then such a relief to see your Nonna. You now have invaluable experience, first hand it what to do during an EQ. That will always help in cae it should happen another time in your life.
I thak God you are all safe at your Nonna’s, getting a bit crowded I guess, but remember to thank God they are there to bug you at times!
I love you so much. Grandma
