“Mum!”-Abbey, 10, Home school

Last Tuesday Lucy (my sister) and I were in my room when the earthquake started. I said to Lucy, “Get under my bed, ” and we both went under. When we were under my bed it felt like the whole house lifted up and shook. I heard things smashing and falling down. Lucy and I were scraming “Mum!” Then we ran to the kitchen. When we were running into the kitchen we had to jump over the wine bottle because it smashed, then we ran to the play room because it has a big snooker table inside. Dad was at the gate just about to go to work but he turned his car around and came back. Lucy, Chloe and Grace (my other two sisters) stayed under the snooker table most of the day. After the earthquake Dad had to get Hannah my sister from school. She was scared and crying and couldn’t wait to get home. I can’t believe it happened again this time. It happened at the wrong time. I was so scared.

    Hi Abbey

Wow you were so brave! What a big day for you all. It sounds as though you looked after Lucy very well getting her under the bed to safety.

With all your family around now you will be feeling a lot better I hope. Lucky Dad was so close.

I wish there was something I could do to stop these earthquakes but I don’t have that special power, all I can do in Auckland is to try to support you and help in some way.

There are a great many of us out here thinking of you, please don’t forget that!

All the very best to you and your family and friends.
    From Ella in Auckland.
