“Earthquake Story”, Olivia, 10, Waimairi School

On Tuesday the 22nd of February an Earthquake struck!  I had just finished eating lunch and was in the classroom putting my lunchbox away .When suddenly I felt an earthquake it was huge! I was trying to get under a table but I fell over from all the shaking .I had tried to get up but a table had fallen on me it was horrible .When the earthquake had finally stopped I ran out of the classroom and all the way to the field .I saw lots of liqufaction and the little kids were crying It was a horrible day and I will never forget it!

    Well this earthquake was a big shock, not the sort of thing you expect at the end of your lunch!

    I am so sorry you were caught by a table whilst trying to get underneath it, that would have felt terrible indeed.

    Good to run to the field with all the other kids, I am not surprised that kids were crying, it is normal when these big things happen to cry and feel a bit worried.

    I am very pleased you have written this piece, it helps all of us who are not there to get an idea of what it was like.

    Now it’s time to give yourself a big hug sent from us all in Auckland and then pass it on please!
