“Duck down children”- Esther, 5, Paparoa Street School

Ok so here’s the first thing I was just eating my sandwich and started shaking and that made me cry. Mrs P said duck down children. Then I ducked down, I was feeling scared because I thought Mary my 9 week old sister had died. I was thrown off my bench I was sitting on. My Dad came and gave me a big hug. We went home and I saw all the mess that the earthquake had created. I think earthquakes are pretty scary and I don’t ever want a big earthquake to happen again.

    Hi Esther

I am so sorry to hear you cried when the shaking started on Tuesday when the earthquake happened. I would have quite likely cried too if I had been there and I am an adult!

I am so happy for you that your little sister didn’t die.

I bet your Dad has got the best hugs in the world!

Here in Auckland we didn’t get the big earthquake but we are thinking about you all the time.
Please send my best wishes to your family.

    From Ella in Auckland.

  3. Hi Esther

I thought you were very brave and I was very proud of all the children. At least we know that everyone who was at school somewhere in Christchurch was safe and sound. Look forward to seeing you back at PSS very soon.
