‘Earthquake’- Toni, 11, Weedons School
9:55 pm-Friday night.
Me and my friend Sarah walk down the hallway to go to bed. My cousin Denva was already there waiting for us. Very slowly we dozed off to sleep.
11:00 am-Still Friday night.
As I sleep I can hear big trains go past my house, I don’t even flinch.
4:35 am- in the morning.
BANG! BANG! BANG! Mum yells “Earthquake!” I raced out of bed with Sarah behind me. Standing in the doorway, Sarah was falling asleep I had to lift her up. She was half asleep. I remember standing in the doorway, so scared I really didn’t know what was happening.
4:45 am- after the earthquake.
As I dragged my mattress into the lounge the first after shock happened. About a 4 or 5 on the Richter scale I thought.
10:00 am
We still had no power. Sarah’s mum had just picked her up so we were going down to Denva’s house because they had power. One News was a real great help, it told us everything we needed to know.
1:00-Tidy up the house.
The house was trashed but just seeing the pictures made me realize how lucky I am. Tidying up the house was he worst thing because there was so much to clean.
Monday- The next week.
I found out that the earthquake was a 7.1 on the Richter scale, the same as the one in Haiti. So far there had been 484 after shocks in less than a week. More and more houses are being pulled down and still there are after shocks happening.
Sorry about your house!
Our grandfather clock fell over!
I am soo annoyed and angry at the person who claimed
that there would be a ”BIG ONE” a month after the quake.
There wasn’t. There wasn’t even an aftershock that night.
No need to get everyone soo nervous.
