‘The Scary Earthquake’- Caitlin, 7, Weedons School

On Friday night around4.35am there was ahumongous earthquake.It was the first one I hadever been in. When ithappened I jumped out ofbed and ran fast downthe hallway. I could notsee because theearthquake had cut ourpower. It was really,really dark in our house.It felt like it would go onfor ever. We had to stayunder the doorway for avery long time. In themorning it was still darkbut I was not scared.When it was a bit lighterthe neighbours cameover to our house. Theysaid, “We had a lot ofbroken glass all aroundour house.” When theyhad left we went into theplayroom it was a mess.Next Sunday we went togran and grandad’s theywere outside cleaningthe shed. I said tograndad, “Did you havesome damage to yourhouse?” and he showedme all of the damage totheir house. Theircupboard was nearlyempty but only my cupsurvived the earthquake.I felt scared when theearthquake happened.On Friday night around 4.35am there was a humongous earthquake. It was really, really dark in our house. It felt like it would go on for ever. We had to stay under the doorway for a very long time. In the morning it was still dark but I was not scared. When it was a bit lighter the neighbours came over to our house. They said, “We had a lot of broken glass all around our house.” When they had left we went into the playroom it was a mess. Next Sunday we went to gran and grandad’s they were outside cleaning the shed. I said to grandad, “Did you have some damage to your house?” and he showed me all of the damage to their house. Their cupboard was nearly empty but only my cup survived the earthquake. I felt scared when the earthquake happened.
