“My bunk bed started to shake”- Shania, 9, West Eyreton School

It was Saturday morning.  At 4.35am on the 4th September.   My bunk bed started to shake.  At first I thought it was my sister moving around but then it started to get stronger.  After it had finished my Dad tried to figure out what it was.  He thought it was a tsunami because the waves were crashing into the banks before he went to bed that night.  Then he thought it was a tornado because he could hear it leave.  We turned the radio on and it said there was a 7.1 earthquake centered in Darfield.

When we were coming home I put my finger in a crack about 1 inch deep and two roads long.

We are still having after shocks.
