“The earthquake was like a big punch in the back”-Devin, 10, Windsor School
The earthquake was like a big punch in the back. My heart was beating faster than we could run to a safe place.
All I could hear was the sound of everyone around me screaming.. I looked all around me and saw the lights falling down. The fish tank beside me burst open and there were fish flapping around on the ground.
I ran outside and there were kids for miles. All I could think about was my family and pets and whether they were ok. I was looking around for my little brother Adam and it felt like ages before I could find him. Finally I found him and he came running up to me crying and wouldn’t let go of me. I couldn’t help but cry myself.
We sat on the big field in a big group waiting for our parents to come and get us.
All I wanted was my family to be together!

Gosh, you have written your report very well. It sounds pretty awful.
You did so well to keep yourself safe and thankfully found Adam.
How kind you were to hold him tight and for you both to cry is a good thing to do because it helps in these times to get the hard feelings out.
Your teachers did a fine job keeping you safe on the field until you could get home.
I hope by now your family are together now and that you are all safe.
Thanks again, keep up the good work! From Ella in Auckland.
Fantastic story Devin, its sounds like it was a really scary time but we are really glad that you are all ok.
Lots of Love
