‘Thank you Brave Teacher!’-Kyla, 5, Mairehau Primary School

I was at school in my classroom.  I was doing my Maths work so nicely at my desk.  All of a sudden I felt the wobbles rock my classroom and I ducked under my desk. I began to cry because I was so frightened of the wobbles.  Other children were playing outside and when they felt the shakes they ran straight to the teacher. Everything started to fall down in my classroom and the lights turned off.  My teacher was so brave, she told us “It’s alright, they have gone now”.  We followed her out to the courts with all the other classes.  It was really noisy because a lot of people were crying.  Parents started to come and pick us up.  I was waiting and waiting and waiting for my daddy to come.  As soon as I saw him I ran straight towards him and hugged him so hard. Thank you brave teachers for keeping us safe!

    Hello Kyla

I am so happy you are safe and had a lovely, kind teacher that looked after all the children so well.

It is not surprising that so many people cried after all the wobbles, it is a hard time.

When Daddy came to pick you you would have felt wonderful again, and aren’t hugs with Dad just great!

Please look after yourself Kyla, I am thinking of you lots in these times and wish your family, friends and school all the very best.

The teachers were all so brave. They kept our children safe when they would have been worrying about their own families. Thank you to all the ‘Brave Teachers’.
