‘My story’-Marita, 5, Hillview Christain School

On tuesday  I was sitting outside eating my lunch with Olivia and Paris when the ground started shaking it was very big and I was very Scared. I tried to stand up but fell on Olivia. The teachers came and told us to go on to the field by the monkey bars. I was squatting on the ground when the second aftershock hit. I started to cry everyone was covering their heads i was sad. I wanted to go home. On the field all the silt came up with lots and lots of water. We had to sit and wait for our mummy’s and daddy’s. We prayed that the earthquakes would stop.I sat on the field and lots of mums came to get the children. I was standing up when scottie came over to me and took me home. I had to sit on Connors seat and it was bumpy on the way home. When I got home I saw mummy and I cried and gave her a big hug. We sat in the driveway and ate chocolate cake that Adam and Katie next door gave us. I went into our house and it was very messy lots of stuff fell over and broke. In my roomlots of books and stuff fell off my shelf. I felt safe when my daddy came home. We had no water and made a toilet in the garden

    Hi Marita

We haven’t forgotten you, those of us in other parts of NZ are thinking of you and hoping with all our hearts that things settle down for you.

It must have been very frightening for you and when you saw Mummy you would have been so happy as she would have been too.

Chocolate cake is handy isn’t it, sort of like good medicine!

I am happy you are feeling safe now.

    Dear Marita,

I am very glad that you were sitting with Olivia and Paris – it must have been very scary when the earthquake happened. My son is 6 and we read your story and wanted to let you know that we liked how you told what happened and that we are thinking of you and all the other children in Christchurch.

    Stay safe – have fun!
