‘My Earthquake Story’- Charlotte, 11, Rolleston

For the big 7.1, my family was safely in Australia but with the 6.3 shake I was at Woodend for peer mediator camp. We were sitting down eating lunch when it struck. The quake felt like table tilt on wii fit. It just didn’t stop!! When we finally thought it was over, it wasn’t. The earth started rocking for a while. After two big aftershocks we were told that we had to go back to school because the other school that was there the night before us couldn’t get back to their school on Columbo Street. It was scary, because we were told that people had died. Thank god we are so lucky.

    Hey Charlotte

Thanks for sharing your story of the earthquake on Tuesday. It sounded pretty scarey all that rocking, it certainly was worse than the wii fit table tilt.

I hope sincerely you stay lucky, please send my very best wishes to your family and school.

    From Ella in Auckland.
