“Now we are closer to Australia than before”- Krystal, 7, Lyttelton Main School.

The whole of Christchurch was shaken at 4.35 am at night breaking everything from chimneys and buildings. My dad even tried to get upstairs to Briana and me, but he didn’t succeed, he kept falling over. The only thing that didn’t break was a picture of Briana and my dad’s bike. I was in my dad’s king size bed (my dad sleeps downstairs on a stretcher). I curled into a ball shape, I held the bed rail. It was freaky. Everything was shaking. It was scary. It shook like shadows. It was a nightmare come true for some people. It was the most scariest thing in the world: it was an earthquake. An earthquake is when the New Zealand plates move close to the Australian plates, and the plates have probably moved a metre, so now we are closer to Australia than before… and that is an earthquake.
