’30 seconds’- Mitchell, 6, Darfield Primary

30 seconds—that was how long it was and 8 kilometres deep. My Dad got out of his bed. He thought he was heading to the door but he headed to his bedside cabinet. He bumped into it and then bumped the wall. When it stopped my Mum came in. She was sounding very scared.

Hi Mitchell, we are a year 2 class from Feilding. Our school is North Street. We are doing some investigating into the earthquake to help with our inquiry. We timed 30 seconds yesterday and it felt like a very long time! We hope your Mum is not too scared anymore and that your Dad didn’t get too badly hurt. We were wondering why did your dad bump into everything?
