‘1,2,3, Earthquake’- Laura, 8, Weedons School
On Saturday morning we had a humongous earthquake. When the earthquake struck at 4.35am it was a 7.1 earthquake. I was so frightened. We have had 489 earthquakes through the years. Wow. In the Haiti earthquake 200,000 people died, their earthquake was the same as ours, we are so lucky. My cousins’ school had an epicentre right underneath it, 850 kids have to be farmed out to either Hornby or Oaklands School. Eight classrooms have to be demolished!!! We didn’t have to have our school demolished, yay!!! When I talked I was like “Mmmaya” and she was like “Lllaura”!!! Our power went off staright away and Mum and Dad rushed out of their bedroom before a huge mirror crashed onto the floor! Our garage has a new crack in it and a new bed fell on top of Mum’s best car but it did not dent it!!! My Nana was staying with us Mum was so pleased!!! It was so scary because it’s hard to imagine the earth is moving!!!
