‘A big kid came and hugged me’-Naiya, 6, Addington School
Me and Serenity were playing a game and then the earthquake hit and then I did tommy turtle and then everyone ran away from me and I ran to the teacher and I ran to Mrs Douglas and a big kid came and hugged me and Serenity and then we started to cry and then it stopped and then there was another earthquake and then Daddy came and picked me up then I cried again. Then we went to go and pick up my sister and then we went home.
Hello Naiya
How good of you to write up your story of when the earthquake came. And how fantastic it was that you and Serenity were together to be able to do a turtle.
Having kind teachers like Mrs Douglas is great, she looked after you very well until Daddy came to pick you up.
I hope your house wasn’t too rattled and that things are starting to get better for you.
Take care now and say ‘Hi’ to your family and friends for me, and say that I am thinking of them all, including you!

Naiya, I am so proud of you for knowing that you needed to be a turtle. Well done. We all stayed safe because we knew what to do. Great story.
Hi Naiya, The big kids at school are good at looking after us. From Kahu
