‘The Earthquake’-Lucy, 6, Harewood School
A few days ago there was a HUGE earthquake. I was in the cloakroom and it just started shaking so I ran outside so the roof didn’t fall in on me (which it probably wouldn’t) and I made a turtle. I felt very scared. It felt like we could suddenly feel the world going round and round. There was Room 1 kids and Saskia by me and Mrs Woods was giving the Room 1 kids a hug so she gave me a hug too. When she gave me a hug it felt nice. When the bell rang we sat on the court and the teacher counted everyone so she could make sure everyone was there. Then Mum came to pick me up and we went to see if the car was ready but it wasn’t so we went to Nana’s house because we didn’t want to be at our house because it had no power. Our house had no power because they hadn’t fixed the power lines yet, and when we got home we still didn’t have power. Our water is very yucky so Mum had to boil some water and put it into bottles.

Thanks for your lovely writing about the earthquake.
I am pleased that you made a turtle even though you felt scared. That was very brave of you.
How lovely Mrs Woods was to give you a hug, the thing with hugs is that when one person gives you one you have to pass it on!
I am sure Mum was very pleased to see you and wasn’t it great to get to Nana’s house.
I am thinking of you lots Lucy and your family and friends, also sending you lots of hugs…that means you have to pass them on too.

Hugs were great to get after the fright we got from the earthquake and helped everyone feel better! You were so good quickly being a turtle. It was great that everyone at school was safe.
You were very brave Lucy. Lots of love Grandma
Well done Lucy, you were very brave and very sensible during the earthquake. I’m glad hugs made you feel better, I know they helped me feel better. I am looking forward to getting back to school soon and seeing all our amazing Harewood children.
Dear Lucy. Great you have Becky at school to comfort you in times of scary earthquakes.
You are so brave. Lovely to see you last week and have a happy laughing time. Love you lots Auntie Jan
Thank you for sharing your story with us. We think of you lots. I hope your water tastes better now. I love hugs too! Lots of love.
