‘My story’-Ella, 9, Queenspark Primary School
I was in the library at lunchtime, and I was trading stickers first I thought that I was alright, but then I heard a big crash boom bang and then there was a little shake and then that little shake turned into a big shake. Then I ran under the closest table and got under it and everybody was screaming and the lights were shaking. And there was lots of crying. When the earthquake finished the evacuation bell rang so we all walked out of the library and when you got out of there and you look to the right you could see a whole lot of little children in little turtles, it was very cute. Then we went out to the field which was our assembly area and then I started crying and my friend Amy gave me a big hug. We were lucky that all our family were safe.
Aren’t you suppose to run out of the library or do something really fast to get out.
We don’t have a evacuation bell. The principle he says earth quake in a loud speaker.

Dear Ella
First of all I have to say what a stunning name you have!!
And then I want to say how sorry I am that you had the horrible experience that you had with the big earthquake.
I am so pleased that turtles were everywhere at your school, cute and safe.
What a lovely friend you have in Amy, have you passed on the hug she gave you yet? When one person gives you a hug, you pass it on…that seems a good idea to me.
Thankfully all your family are safe, please say that I am thinking of them and wishing them the very best in this next stage of rebuilding. I am of course sending you very special thoughts especially with that fabulous name.
From Ella in Auckland.
Dear Ella,
