‘EARTHQUAKE’- Lucy, 12, Weedons School
I woke up Saturday 4:35 am. I jump out of bed so scared, mum and dad jumped out as well. Is the earthquake real? Mum runs to get Sam. The drawers just missed him. We all stood under the door. I shook like a rattle snakes tail. All I can hear is the crashing of glasses falling. Dad grabs my blanket and a torch. The power is out and it’s pitch black.
Mum’s phone rings constantly people checking we’re safe. It’s over, just the aftershocks. We all walk to mum and dad’s room looking at mine and Sam’s rooms. The drawers are everywhere, my TV still connected. We turn on the car radio and listen to the news. Time passes, not knowing if another one is going to hit. Even the dogs were crying.
Once it got ligh,t we headed to my granny and poppy’s house because they had a gas stove so we had bacon and hot drinks. Mum had to go into her salon to clean up. It was just bottles fallen down.
The power came on in the afternoon so we could watch the news, it turned out to be a 7.1 earthquake. That night we all slept together. I did not get much sleep that night with the aftershocks.
They are still coming. You know when it’s coming because of the grumbling noise. I can get a full night sleep now.
